Comanche 3 is a 750 MW coal-fired power plant in Pueblo owned primarily by Xcel Energy, with smaller partners CORE Electric Cooperative and Holy Cross Energy. The Comanche 3 plant is scheduled for closure in 2030 in line with Xcel Energy’s climate change mitigation goals. The question of what is to be done in the void of the Comanche 3 plant is already the subject of much debate.
