Tax Ambassador Program

The Colorado Fiscal Institute is excited to host another session of our virtual Tax Ambassador Program. What is a Tax Ambassador?  We define Tax Ambassador as a knowledgeable advocate prepared to talk to your fellow Coloradans about crafting more equitable fiscal policies. Our training program is a six-module train-the-trainer course, where we'll dive into Colorado's tax code, learn the ins and outs of Colorado's fiscal constraints, and build the tools to talk to your community about creating a tax code that works for everyone.

During the six modules, you will:

• Gain a deeper understanding of Colorado's tax system and how it works
• Explore the historical reasons behind why racism is at the root of many of our tax policies 
• Learn how we can use tax policy as a tool for racial and economic justice
• Understand actions that can be taken to create equitable tax policy
• Get all the tools you need to give a presentation to your community about Colorado's tax code
• Obtain an official CFI Tax Ambassador Certificate

In an effort to make this program successful and accessible for everyone, all courses will be offered on two different days of the week, Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Attendees will need a device that is connected to the internet and is able to run Zoom. Participation in all six courses is required.

After attending the Tax Ambassador course, you will have all the knowledge you'll need to talk about how Colorado's tax code perpetuates racial wealth disparities — and how we can use that same tax code to right past wrongs and remove barriers to opportunity.
