Reporter-Herald cites CFI on potential state budget cuts
CFI’s economist Chris Stiffler, was cited in an article published by the Reporter-Herald discussing potential cuts in the 2016-2017 Colorado fiscal budget. Although Colorado is highly ranked among states for fastest growth, household median income and low unemployment rates, we fall behind in education and transportation funding. Only 8.9 percent of the general fund, where Colorado tax dollars go, go to higher education and no money is allocated to transportation. The only money transportation receives is the state’s gasoline tax that has not changed since 1993 and charges 22 cents to the gallon. As a result, Colorado’s education and transportation funds could be seeing cuts.
