Pueblo’s Potential: How Child Care Breaks Down Barriers
For too many Colorado families who earn low incomes, child care is so expensive it ends up becoming a barrier to work. Our latest report outlines the ways expanding free or affordable child care to families in Pueblo would benefit both families and the local economy there.
The report finds that when kids reach the age when they are able to attend school, their parents—especially mothers—are more likely to work, earn higher incomes, and those benefits would translate to up to $35.5 million in economic impact for Pueblo.
As policymakers in Pueblo and across the state work to help Colorado recover from the pandemic, they should consider expanding free child care to parents of 4-year-olds as a way to boost the economy and support families.
