Public News Service cites CFI on federal coal royalty renovation

Public News Service ran a story featuring CFI’s deputy director, Kathy White, discussing the federal governments consideration of renovating the current federal coal royalty programs. Coal royalties are rents or taxes that are paid on the amount of coal being extracted by private companies to the federal government for the right to mine coal on federal lands. These royalties are important to our communities as they are a significant source of revenue for state and local budgets. Revenue collected through these royalty programs are used to fund schools, roads, environmental protection, public safety and other priorities in our communities.
