Daily Sentinel cites CFI on coal royalty rates

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel cites CFI’s research on coal royalties in a story reporting on a requested reduction in the federal royalty rate at the Elk Creek Mine in Somerset. The Bureau of Land and Management has proposed that Oxbow mining be charged 5 percent instead of the standard 8 percent underground coal mine rate for approximately 13.1 million tons of coal. This request is unusual however, as the Oxbow mining grounds are no longer under operation, proposing a reduction that would only benefit the owner.
