Colorado Fiscal Institute economist Chris Stiffler leads a conversation with Colorado’s top economists who will touch on current economic trends in Colorado and what they mean for the state’s future.

9:30 – 10:30 – Changing the Conversation: A Look at Amendment 73’s Fight for Equity

An engaging panel of education advocates and experts will reflect on the story of Amendment 73, discussing solutions for how Colorado can find the path toward equitable public education funding. Carol Hedges will moderate this panel including Lisa Weil, Executive Director of Great Education Colorado; Ken Delay, Executive Director of the Colorado Association of School Boards; and Chris Keating, President and Founder of Keating Research.

10:45 – 12:00 – Keynote, Dr. Pavlina Tcherneva

Pavlina R. Tcherneva, Ph.D., is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at Bard College. She specializes in the fields of monetary theory, fiscal policy, and macroeconomic stabilization. She will share her perspectives on how to use public policies to make sure all families can thrive.  Attendees will learn about her research examining the impact of direct job creation on growth, income inequality, and unemployment.

12:00 – 1:15 – That Was a Mouthful: How to Talk About Public Investments

This working lunch will give us a chance to learn about fiscal reform efforts happening throughout the state and steps you can take to join the effort. Audience members will practice talking about the importance of the role public investments play in our diverse and thriving communities.

1:15 – 2:15 – The New Wave: 2019 Legislative Priorities

This past election brought a promise of a new wave of leaders to deliver a robust, well-funded public investment strategy. CFI’s legislative and tax policy director, Ali Mickelson, will explore what’s in store for Colorado during the 2019 legislative session with a panel of newly elected and appointed state leaders.
